Media Awareness Training
Why media training?
You have a great idea for a new charity, a news story, an event you want publicised or perhaps you are dealing with a widescale redundancy programme or another high profile issue and are in the public eye. These are all situations where developing media awareness can help. This is about having an understanding of what the different media need, when it is needed and the best ways to prepare. The aim is to help you ensure that your message comes across in a way that promotes and sustains your organisation.
What we offer: Depending on your requirements we deliver training in both awareness and in being interviewed and we can do this one-to-one and in groups. Some examples are:
Individual training: typically this might include help to prepare press releases and practice in different styles of interviews for a range of programmes and newspapers.
Group training: we can deliver a half day or day where key components include:
- Different media – an overview of radio, television, press and online
- Covering a story – what does the each of the media need? What will get them interested?
- “I’ve got a story/event/issue” – how to write an effective press release with feedback given.
- Question and answers
For the full day each participant brings a topic they would like to be interviewed on as if for radio or television for 3 minutes. We discuss how to prepare for the interview and then do the interview and provide feedback. The interview is recorded to take away.
